Support Programs

At Visiting Angels, we know how difficult and sometimes unexpected the need for homecare services can be. Most of us are on a fixed income, and it helps to be aware of the full scope of resources available to you. In efforts to keep your in-home care options as inexpensive as possible, we have compiled a list of resources that could be of help with offsetting the cost of homecare services.

Through the use of these Support Programs, Visiting Angels services may be free to you! Please call our office discuss the details of how we can tailor a program to your individual needs, possibly without cost!

  • Visiting Angels Family Advantages - care recipients and their families are now eligible to participate in a nationwide program entitling you to special offers and discounts on the products, services & access to pertinent information you need for the day-to-day life of today's seniors.   • The Alzheimer’s Association - offers a $500 Respite Care Voucher to the families of those who have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or Dementia. Visiting Angels is an approved care provider and can help to coordinate care when the need arises. The Alzheimer’s Association also has monthly support group meetings. During those support group meetings, respite care is paid for by the Alzheimer’s Association and not considered part of the use of your voucher. The Alzheimer’s Association also has many other valuable resources for patients, family members, and caregivers. Click to download the Voucher Application below.   • The Veterans Administration has established the Aide and Attendance and Homebound pensions to help seniors in need. You may be eligible if you are a Veteran or the surviving spouse of a Veteran who has served at least 90 days or more on active duty with one day beginning or ending during a period of war, and you are in need of assistance at home due to your disabilities.   • The Appalachian Area Agency on Aging offers the South Carolina Family Caregiver Support Program. There are no income limits on eligibility. To qualify for the Family Caregiver Support Program, the individual receiving support must be 60 years or older and unable to do at least two (2) activities of daily living on their own.   • Meals on Wheels Services offers meals to those in need and is in large part volunteer based. Each meal location has its own schedule of services. You can contact them directly by visiting the Greenville Meals on Wheels website at http://www.mealsonwheelsgreenville.org or call 864-233-6565 ( Greenville) and 864-879-2254 (Greer).
       
  • Diligent Hands Gracious Hearts provides lawn maintenance FREE OF CHARGE, as a Christian ministry for elderly people who physically cannot maintain their property on their own. For more information please contact them at 864-241-1399.
       
  • Angel Food Ministries i s able to provide families with approximately $65 worth of quality nutritious food for $30. Angel Food Ministries does not use out-of-date food or inferior products. Each month's menu is different and consists of fresh, frozen and packaged food. Angel Food provides quality, nutritious food and there are no applications or qualifications necessary to purchase.   • The Cancer Society offers assistance to those battling cancer. They can provide supplies, support groups and some transportation assistance. For more information please contact The Cancer Society of Greenville 864-232-8439 or visit their website www.cancersocietygc.org.
       
  • ALS Association The ALS Association helps patients and families cope with the day to day challenges of living with ALS. The ALS Association can provide information, resources, and referrals to many resources throughout their network to help those suffering with ALS. The ALS Association provides localized patient and family support in an atmosphere with an emphasis on hope and quality of life. There is a reimbursement voucher available in the amount of $500 per quarter, up to $2000 per year. The vouchers are awarded quarterly and can depend on the amount of help that is needed.   • Long Term Care Insurance often provides for a variety of services which in clude non-medical care to individuals with chronic illness or disability. Most long-term care insurance policies assist people with support services such as activities of daily living including dressing, bathing, meal preparation, etc. There is normally an elimination periods associated with long term care insurance policies that require out of pocket payment for a given number of days prior to the policy holder being able to receive benefit from their policy. Policies differ in services covered, elimination periods, daily maximums, life-time benefits, claims requirements, etc. It would be our pleasure to help you in qualifying and better understanding what your policy will cover and how to qualify for care.   • Debt Counsel for Seniors and the Disabled eliminates the stress of having to deal with creditors and collection agencies, and stops them from trying to collect debts you cannot pay. This legal service enforces the rights of individuals on fixed incomes. For more information you can contact them directly at 1-800-992-3275.
